A LITTLE STORY

FUNAGUCHI — FRESH FROM THE BREWERY

Funaguchi changed what packaged sake could be. When Kikusui launched it in 1972, unpasteurized sake was difficult to sell far from the brewery because it was so sensitive to light, heat and air. The solution was an aluminium can. It blocks the light and helps protect the fresh nama sake inside — bringing an experience once mostly enjoyed near breweries to drinkers much farther away.

Funaguchi is a nama genshu — unpasteurized and undiluted sake. That means you get a fresher, fuller expression, closer to the bold character traditionally enjoyed at the brewery. It’s a different side of sake: rich, lively and full of personality.
